1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device — computer, smartphone, or tablet — when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to the site owner about how the site is used.
Cookies are not programs and cannot execute code or carry viruses. They can only store text and can only be read by the website that placed them (with the exception of third-party cookies, described below).
There are two main types by duration:
- Session cookies — exist only while your browser is open. They are deleted automatically when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies — remain on your device for a set period of time, or until you delete them manually.
2. Why We Use Cookies
WiseGoodness uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- To ensure the Site loads and functions correctly
- To understand how visitors navigate the Site so we can improve content and structure
- To track affiliate link clicks to Amazon.com for commission attribution (Amazon places these cookies, not us)
- To serve typography via Google Fonts (Google may log the request)
We do not use cookies to serve personalised advertising, to build behavioural profiles for retargeting, or to track you across other websites.
3. Types of Cookies We Use
Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the Site to function. Without them, parts of the Site may not work correctly. They do not collect personally identifiable information and cannot be switched off in our systems.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| __Secure-* | Maintains basic browsing session state required for the Site to operate securely | Session |
Analytics Cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site — which pages are most read, how long people spend, and what content is most valuable. This data is collected in aggregate and does not identify you personally. IP addresses are anonymised before storage.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Registers a unique ID to distinguish users for Google Analytics | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Maintains session state for Google Analytics 4 (GA4) | 2 years |
| _gid | Registers a unique ID to distinguish users — shorter-lived companion to _ga | 24 hours |
| _gat | Used to throttle request rate to Google Analytics servers | 1 minute |
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at any time using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Affiliate and Commerce Cookies
When you click an Amazon affiliate link on this Site, you are redirected to Amazon.com. Amazon then places its own cookies on your device to attribute any purchase you make within 24 hours to WiseGoodness for commission purposes. These cookies are set by Amazon, not by us, and are governed by Amazon's Privacy Notice.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| session-id | Amazon | Identifies your Amazon browsing session for affiliate attribution | Session |
| ubid-main | Amazon | Identifies your Amazon account or device for purchase attribution | 1 year |
| x-main | Amazon | Maintains your signed-in session on Amazon | 1 year |
4. Third-Party Cookies and Technologies
In addition to the cookies described above, the following third-party services make network requests when you use our Site. These are not cookies stored on your device, but they do involve your browser sending data to external servers:
- Google Fonts: Typography assets are loaded from Google's servers. When your browser requests a font file, Google logs your IP address and browser details. This request happens on page load and does not result in a persistent cookie on your device. You can review Google Fonts' privacy FAQ for more information.
- Pexels CDN: Article images are served from Pexels' content delivery network. Your browser makes a request to Pexels servers to load each image, which Pexels may log. Pexels does not set marketing cookies through this Site.
We do not use Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, advertising network cookies, social share buttons that track you, or any retargeting technologies.
5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You have several options for controlling cookies. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of this and other websites.
Browser settings
Every major browser lets you view, manage, block, and delete cookies. Find the instructions for your browser below:
Opt-out tools
You can also opt out of specific types of tracking using these tools:
- Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on — prevents Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits
- Your Online Choices (EU) — manage interest-based advertising preferences
- Digital Advertising Alliance Opt-Out (US) — opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies
- Network Advertising Initiative Opt-Out (US)
Do Not Track
Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that sends a signal to websites requesting that you not be tracked. There is currently no agreed standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. We currently do not alter our data collection practices in response to DNT signals, but we do not engage in cross-site tracking regardless.
